A to Z Blog Challenge: G is for "and then my van took a Goat across state lines"

I've noticed that I've become a slave to work schedules and school schedules and tae kwon do schedules.  Meanwhile, my Dad is suddenly traveling all over the world and watching prime time and reading all these really cool books that have nothing to do with parenting! He's kind of living the life I used to have until I had kids. Historically, my ponderings over this role reversal never last more than a minute or two because, well, I'm busy. However, I've become alarmed.  Real text conversation with my Dad a few weeks ago:

Dad: Can I borrow your van to bring a goat to MD?
Me: Are you even allowed to bring a goat across state lines?
Dad: Yes
Me: Isn't this the sort of thing that teenagers beg for their parent's forgiveness for?
Dad: I don't know
Me: I'm sure you can appreciate my position of "do I ask more questions or just get the bail money ready?"
Dad: No jail, just fines and impoundment. No worries!!

Yes, the same man who wouldn't let me take his car to my 11th grade cast party wanted to borrow my van to drive a goat across state lines.  My Dad is officially a teenager! And if it's true that what goes around comes around, good Lord please help me!!

I began researching to see if it's even legal for my van to bring a goat across a state line.  Turns out that there are people all over this country driving goats across all sorts of state lines in broncos, mini-vans, station wagons and trailers! Seriously, I never would have guessed that goats were so popular! There are entire websites dedicated to transporting your goat!!  Who knew?

Unfortunately, it's against my HOA bylaws for me to have a pet goat!  And while the goat is happily in it's new MD home, I'm clearly going to have to increase the Dad bail money fund!

(I know this was in a movie somewhere I want to say Short Circuit maybe?)

XOXOXOXOX :)

  1. LMAO!!!! Ok, where to start? How on earth did a goat come into your Dad's possession? Was there a background story why said goat had to flee the state? Would it even fit in a car seat? (I know it would have thought it had died and gone to goat heaven with all the little surprises and treats it could find :)

  2. I didn't know that it was legal to bring any animals across the border, except for maybe a cat or dog. Or rodent. I hope he spent some quality time with the goat, though - because I think that goats are really great to hang out with (except for when they use your belly to keep their balance to grab some tall leaves).

    1. I'm sure my Dad educated the goat on great American rock bands during the drive! :)

  3. He volunteers at a shelter that rehabilitates injured animals with the goal of returning them to the wild or to a safe home as the case may be. I opted for "get bail money ready" and stopped asking questions.

I think a much more interesting story would be along the lines of "the goat was a tourist in the big city, taking pictures of the monuments when it inadvertently snapped pictures of a crime being committed. In exchange for the photographs the goat requested to be placed in the witness protection program and was secretly relocated to a farm in MD...in my van..."

As it is, the goat was probably rescued by the shelter, rehabilitated and transported to where he could live out the rest of his days happily frolicking...in MD...

    2. So I was pondering this whole boring goat story thing when I couldn't sleep...at 3am, what if a CIA agent was selling secrets and the CIA was on to him and so he fed the secrets to the goat before he was murdered and now the goat is on the run?? (Did I mention I've been watching a lot of Castle lately?)

    3. That's actually a smart idead. Goats are known to eat anything, so it's like an environmental shredder for classified info! WIN!

  4. There is a joke here somewhere. I know there is. But are you sure your dad didn't mean "Capricorn"? :)

  7. Oh, this role reversal reminds me of a few years back when my mother went on what can only be called spring break and returned with drinking tales and a tatoo! Maaaaaaaaaaa!

    1. YES!!!! My mother called me at work one day to ask me where I got my tatoo. My tatoo is like 20 yrs old. I told her the name of the place, not even questioning why she was asking (she called me at work, I was busy) Then I see her a week later with a tatoo!!! And the guy who did mine 20 yrs ago did hers and she thought he was really cute and this story just goes downhill from here...

  9. Hey, I'm sure you've just forgotten all you parents had to put up with to raise you! :) Your time of fun again will come. Then your kids will be going through these same thoughts when you ask them for a hover to take your ancient "paperback book" to another dimension. Or something like that.

    1. Lol! Since I became a parent, it is astounding the amount of time I spend calling my parents and apologizing for all the stuff I did growing up! Thanks for visiting!!

  10. LOL. Love it! So many reasons to have a goat.....

If you had a goat in your back yard you could collect goat hair. I reckon it would take a few years to get enough to spin yard to actually make something! Then there's goat cheese. You could feed your family on a little protein. You'd have a live in lawn mower as well. And if you hang your clothes on the washing line (the ones you hate) close to the goat he'll dispense of them for you and you can blame the goat!

    1. I was thinking of the whole cheese angle to get a pet goat but I've very intrigued by the idea of leaving stuff I hate in the yard and having the goat dispense of it...

  11. This was hilarious especially with the goat picture at the end.

The only thing we ever smuggled was a hamster to Denmark.

I found you through the A to Z Challenge.
